Why
Alpacas?
Have you ever thought about having a little land and
a small farm? Does the idea of raising profitable livestock sound
interesting?
Alpacas are wonderfully gentle animals that can be
halter trained, transported easily, require relatively small amount
of land and can be shorn each year for their fabulous fleece.
Females generally deliver one cria (baby) every year. The Cria is
weaned when it is 6 months old. The Female breeds when her cria is
14 days old, and will deliver her new cria in about 11 months.
Alpacas can be wonderful investments because they are
in demand with a limited supply. As mentioned above the alpaca
produces only one cria per year. This slow reproduction continues to
restrict the supply while demand continues to increase. The United
States has closed the importation of alpacas from South America.
Therefore there is no influx of satuation of the market with "new"
alpacas.
We choose to live in a rural area and raise our
children on a farm. Many Alpaca owners are retired or nearing
retirement and are enjoying a rewarding life with their alpacas.
